Glera

white

Prosecco's grape — neutral fruit, tank-method bubbles.

Glera is the grape used for Prosecco. The Charmat (tank) method — secondary fermentation in a pressurized stainless-steel tank rather than the bottle — preserves Glera's primary fruit character: green apple, pear, white flower, with low to moderate acid. The grape was renamed from Prosecco in 2009 when the EU restricted Prosecco to a place name. Quality tiers within Prosecco DOC and the higher Conegliano Valdobbiadene DOCG distinguish flatland from hillside fruit, with the steep Cartizze cru at the top.
