Hárslevelű
Tokaj's perfumed second grape; linden honey character.
Hárslevelű — the name means linden-leaved in Hungarian — is the secondary grape of Tokaj, blended with Furmint in both dry and Aszú wines. It contributes aromatic lift (linden, honey, peach) and a touch more fruit-forward roundness than the more austere Furmint. A small but growing number of producers bottle varietal Hárslevelű, which tends fuller and more aromatic than dry Furmint. Plantings exist in small numbers in Slovakia and on the Hungarian shore of Lake Balaton.
