Marsanne

white

Northern Rhône white — full-bodied, waxy, often with Roussanne.

Marsanne is one of the two principal white grapes of the Northern Rhône, traditionally blended with Roussanne for white Hermitage, Crozes-Hermitage, and Saint-Joseph. The grape produces full-bodied, low-acid wines with quince, almond, and waxy notes, capable of long aging despite the low acid. Australia's Goulburn Valley has the world's oldest Marsanne plantings (planted 1860s) at Tahbilk. New World plantings are otherwise modest.
