Nero di Troia
Northern Puglia's structured red — high tannin, rose perfume.
Nero di Troia (also Uva di Troia) is the leading red grape of northern Puglia around Castel del Monte and the Tavoliere plain. Compared to the riper Primitivo and Negroamaro further south, Nero di Troia produces wines with higher acid, more aggressive tannin, and a distinctive perfumed-rose, dried-cherry profile. The grape ripens late and yields irregularly; modern producers using lower yields and careful oak management have positioned it as a serious age-worthy red. Plantings remain almost entirely within Puglia.
