Pinot Gris / Pinot Grigio

white

The same grape, two styles: rich Alsace Gris, lean Italian Grigio.

Pinot Gris and Pinot Grigio are the same grape — language and stylistic tradition split the labels. Italian Pinot Grigio, especially from Veneto and Friuli, leans crisp, lemony, light-bodied, and unoaked. Alsace Pinot Gris produces fuller-bodied, sometimes off-dry wines with honeyed ripe-pear and ginger notes that age longer than most whites. Oregon Pinot Gris splits the difference — riper than Italian, leaner than Alsatian. The grape is a pink-skinned mutation of Pinot Noir.
