Touriga Franca
Most-planted Douro red — Port's aromatic lift.
Touriga Franca is the most-planted grape in the Douro, often blended with Touriga Nacional and Tinta Roriz (Tempranillo) for Port and dry table wines. Compared to Touriga Nacional, it ripens later and offers more aromatic floral lift with slightly less concentration and tannin. The grape is rarely bottled solo but contributes substantially to the perfume and elegance of top Port and Douro reds. Older terraced vineyards, where it grows alongside dozens of other Douro varieties in field blends, yield the most distinctive expressions.
