Touriga Nacional

red

Portugal's noble red — Port's backbone, increasingly solo.

Touriga Nacional is Portugal's most prestigious red grape, central to traditional Port blends and the leading variety in modern dry Douro and Dão reds. Small berries with thick skins yield concentrated, dark, floral wines with violet aromatics, bramble fruit, and considerable tannin. The grape ripens reliably in Portugal's hot, dry summers but is sensitive to drought stress. Plantings have grown rapidly in the last 30 years as dry table wines became central to the Douro and Dão economies.
