Vermentino
Mediterranean coastal white; saline, citric, herbal.
Vermentino is the dominant white grape along the western Mediterranean coast — Sardinia, Liguria, Corsica (where it is Rolle), and parts of southern France. Wines are dry, medium-bodied, and notably saline with a bitter-almond finish typical of the grape. Sardinia's Vermentino di Gallura DOCG is the prestige reference; lighter Tuscan and coastal Provence versions also see significant production. The grape pairs naturally with Mediterranean seafood and is meant for early drinking.
